NEW ADDITION-The Borough accepted delivery in August of a brand new 2006 7300 SFA International 4x4 Truck, with plow and spreader. The total cost of the vehicle is  $109,974. The Borough expects to utilize this vehicle for diverse projects such as hauling of materials for paving and snowplowing.

The Department of Public Works is responsible for the improvements and repairs of the Borough 23 miles of roads. Its responsibilities are complex and diverse. The Department has 4 full time employees (Laborers), in addition to a Full Time Supervisor. Other functions of the department is removal of snow, leaf collection, maintaining the parks and ballfields, playground, swimming pool, maintenance of borough buildings and grounds, sanitary sewer and storm sewer lines, pumping station, traffic signs and traffic signals, banners and other community tasks.

STREET IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS

In 2006, NIMARIS, Inc. from Bath, PA was awarded the paving contract for $166,000. The following streets were completed:

  • Star Village Area (Puggy Lane, Sunset Lane and Scottie Lane)
  • Stanley Avenue, N. Bergen St. to N. Lynn Street
  • Sioux Street, from Green Court to Lynn Street

Tentative 2007 Paving Schedule:

  • Church Street(Forrest to Diehl)
  • Moravia Street. ( S. Bergen St. to Warren St.)
  • Wiley Street (S. Lynn St. to S. Hoffert St,)
  • Sioux Street (S. Lynn Street to S. Hoffert St.)

If approved by Council, property owners will be notified of improvements to be undertaken as far as curbs and sidewalks. Property owners will be required to pay for the improvements per Borough Engineer's recommendations.

CURB RAMP PROJECT

The Borough received another Grant in the amount of $19,000 from the County of Lehigh FY 2006 CDBG Program in order to construct handicap ramps at various corners. It is anticipated that these funds will be used towards the 2007 Paving Project.
