FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BOROUGH TO HOLD PUBLIC WORKSHOP MEETING
ON COMPREHENSIVE PLANNING PROGRAM

The Borough of Fountain Hill’s Planning Commission will hold an initial public workshop meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 9, 2005, at the Fountain Hill Borough Hall, 941 Long Street, Fountain Hill, PA 18015. At the meeting, planning commission members and their consultant will: present the major findings from background studies; discuss work on Fountain Hill’s Comprehensive Plan; and ask for public comments on various planning issues. The planning commission has been has been meeting regularly since December 2004 with the help of consultants from Urban Research and Development Corporation (URDC).

The comprehensive plan provides guidance for community issues such as land use; housing; economic development; historic preservation; transportation; parks, recreation and open space; and other community facilities (such as emergency services, library services, and public buildings and services). The comprehensive plan, to be presented at a later meeting this Summer, provides only recommendations, but the borough follows the plan by adopting zoning and subdivision/land development ordinances, which have the force of law regarding land use and development.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for the public to view maps and ask questions. Borough officials and planning commission members, and consultant representatives will be available to discuss the work on the plan before and after the meeting. For more information contact Randy Soriano, Executive Secretary, 610-867-0301.
